The Antoniuskapelle Müddersheim is located near the district Müddersheim in the municipality of Vettweiß in the district of Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia .

The chapel is a plastered stone building with a slate roof and a wrought-iron grid from the 17th century; their base is 5 m × 10 m. "Anno 1669" is carved on a stone in the choir room. On a former lintel is written: "RENOVATUM ET AUCTUM 1786 RENOVATUM 1906".

The chapel is located directly on Bundesstrasse 477 , an old Roman military route from nearby Zülpich to Neuss . Since 1832 it has served as the burial place of the imperial barons Geyr von Schweppenburg , whose moated castle Müddersheim is about 300 m away.

history

The chapel was built in 1669 by Katharina von Hocherbach, b. built by Kinzweiler, a cousin of the Jesuit Johann Adam Schall von Bell , to avert the plague . It was expanded by Cornelius Joseph von Geyr in 1786.

Inside there is a baroque altar , some figures and tombstones from the 18th and 19th centuries. Outside above the door is the marriage coat of arms of Geyr and von Groote.

In 2019 it will be 350 years since the chapel was built.
