history

The tithing of Soller has been proven to have been in the possession of the Cologne Abbey of Groß St. Martin since 1110 , to which the Church of St. Gangolf was also incorporated in 1255.

The church is a construction of the 11th to 16th centuries. The Romanesque choir dates from the 11th / 12th centuries. Century, nave and tower were built in the 16th century in late Gothic forms. In 1714 the church was redesigned in baroque form .

Since 2010 St. Gangolf in Soller is no longer an independent parish. It became with the former parishes of St. Gereon (Vettweiß), St. Michael (Kelz), St. Antonius (Ginnick), St. Mariä Himmelfahrt (Disternich), St. Jakobus the Elder (Jakobwüllesheim), St. Johann Baptist (Sievernich ), St. Amandus (Müddersheim), St. Martin (Froitzheim) and St. Peter (Gladbach) St. Mary's to the parish, Vettweiß merged .

Furnishing

In the church there is a neo-Romanesque high altar and matching two side altars and the pulpit from 1905. Above the arch, which connects the nave and choir, there is a wall painting. This probably dates from around 1900. Jakob Schwarzkopf created the windows in 1982.

Lourdes grotto

There is a Lourdes grotto right next to the church. It was built in 1895. In September some people make a pilgrimage to the Lourdes grotto in Soller. This is when the Marian Octave takes place.

Bells

In the bell tower there are three bronze bells from three different foundries. Bell 2 is a loan bell from Göttkendorf (East Prussia), Polish Gutkowo, and bell 3 is a loan bell from Ober Herzogswaldau ( Lower Silesia ), Polish Mirocin Górny. Both bells came to Soller after the war. Before the Second World War , today's bell 1 was the smallest bell. It hung with two larger bells with the chimes g ′ and b ′ in the bell cage. They were cast in 1921 by Werner Hüesker, Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock from Gescher and melted down around 1940 for war purposes.
