Coordinates: 50 ° 45 ′ 45 ″  N , 6 ° 38 ′ 20.4 ″  E The Roman Catholic branch church St. Peter is a listed church building in Gladbach , a district of Vettweiß in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

From the two-aisled predecessor building of 11/12. Century the outside of the Sakristei two walled Gesimsstücke and inside the base of the bevels southern Scheid arc pillar in the west bay obtained.

The irregular two-aisled hall church made of quarry stone was built in 15/16. Erected in the 18th century on a walled cemetery. The choir closes on three sides and the sacristy stands in the angle between the choir and the south aisle. The Gothic tower that was originally located above the west yoke was demolished in 1830; a brick tower was placed in front of the building and at the same time the nave was encased in brick. A ribbed vault was drawn into the interior .

Since the merger of the former parishes of St. Gereon, St. Jakobus the Elder, St. Gangolf, St. Martin, St. Antonius, St. Johann Baptist, St. Mariä Himmelfahrt, St. Amandus and St. Peter to form the parish of St. Marien Peter is no longer a parish church in Vettweiß.

Furnishing

  • The rich Rococo choir furnishings from 1741 include the choir stalls and the high altar retable with the figures of Saints Peter, Rochus and Sebastian. In the altarpiece is the Mother of God depicted as Simon Stock the Scapular presented.
  • The seat of the patron saint with an alliance coat of arms of the Hatzfeld and Hillesheim families is located on the northern choir stalls .
  • The side altars , the pulpit and the font are simpler baroque work.
  • On the north side altar is a clay group of the Holy Family by JJ Imhoff
  • Among the wooden sculptures, a missionary cross from the 18th century with a crucifix from the first half of the 17th century is worth mentioning.
