The Petronella chapel Dirlau stands between Vettweiß - Füssenich - Sievernich - Müddersheim in the fields of the Zülpich Börde . Until the municipal reorganization that came into force on January 1, 1975, the estate and chapel belonged to the municipality of Sievernich, which was part of the Vettweiß office and is now part of the municipality of Vettweiß. In terms of the church, the Dirlau estate originally belonged to the Füssenich monastery (today part of the Sievernich community, i.e. the diocese of Aachen ), only the chapel still belongs to the parish of Füssenich, i.e. the archbishopric of Cologne .

On Good Dirlau with Petronella Chapel, the cross Heerweg and the Frankfurt-Aachener Coronation Street , the meaningless today rural roads in the district are field. It is still popularly said that the chapel was consecrated by a German Pope along with several other churches in the Neffelbach region . According to Clemen, today's chapel is a 12th century building that has been rebuilt over the years.

The festival of the chapel patroness Petronilla (Petronella) is celebrated on May 31st. Up to the year 1890, processions , small groups and individuals came to worship the saint, especially on this day , who are called upon for intercession in cases of fever . On that day, the procession from Füssenich brought their statue and relics to the chapel, which have probably been kept in the parish church there since secularization .

According to legend , Petronella is the daughter of St. Peter . She is therefore represented with a key and a broom, attributes that she as the steward of the house of St. To mark Peter. Since so many pilgrims flocked to the chapel on their feast day, the sermon had to be held outdoors. After the service , the clergyman was traditionally invited to breakfast by the Gutshalfen . The pilgrims then rested under the trees and ate the bread they had brought with them. At some junk stalls you could buy wake and schnapps . In 1890 the procession had to be stopped because the chapel had fallen apart. It was restored in 1906/07, but reduced in size by almost half. In 1931 the procession from Füssenich was revived for a few years, but it perished during the National Socialist era . Every year on May 31, a mass is celebrated in the chapel and a sermon is addressed to the pilgrims.

The Romanesque choir building from the 12th century has an apse , the arched windows of which were later walled up or changed into rectangular windows. In the 17th to 18th centuries, a nave was built with a bell tower attached to the west side. In 1963/1964 the chapel was restored again.

The chapel is a listed building .
