St. Antonius in Ginnick

St. Antonius is the Roman Catholic branch church of the Ginnick district of the municipality of Vettweiß in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The church has been entered in the list of architectural monuments in Vettweiß since October 26, 1987 under number Gin-3 and is consecrated to Anthony the Great .

history

A chapel in Ginnick was first mentioned in visitation records in 1550. At that time the place was a branch of the parish Froitzheim. It was not until 1863 that Ginnick was detached from the Froitzheim parish and made an independent parish .

The current tower was built in the middle of the 17th century and the nave at the beginning of the 18th century in Baroque style. In 1897 the hall church was expanded to include a transept by the Cologne architect and later Linz cathedral master builder Franz Statz . On June 8, 1904, the enlarged church was finally consecrated . After damage in the Second World War , the church was restored in 1951.

Since 2010 St. Antonius is no longer an independent parish. It became with the former parishes of St. Gereon (Vettweiß), St. Amandus (Müddersheim), St. Michael (Kelz), St. Gangolf (Soller), St. Jakobus the Elder (Jakobwüllesheim), St. Johann Baptist (Sievernich) St. Assumption (Disternich), St. Martin (Froitzheim) and St. Peter (Gladbach) Vettweiß to the parish of St. Mary merged .

Church building and architecture

It is a single - nave, three- bay cruciform church with a 5/8 choir closure . In the third yoke is the crossing , where the main and transepts meet. A three-storey bell tower is built in front of the church building to the west, crowned by a curly baroque dome . The building is made of rubble stones with corner blocks. There is an arched window in each yoke .

Interior

Inside there is a high altar from the beginning of the 18th century as well as two side altars and several sculptures in rural Baroque style, which are painted in color. In 1875 the organ builders Kalscheuer from Nörvenich built the organ .

Churchyard

The church has a churchyard , which is surrounded by a quarry stone wall with tombs and crosses from the 17th and 18th centuries.
