Antsirabe (German: "where there is a lot of salt") is a city in Madagascar with 238,478 inhabitants (as of 2013). It is the capital of the Vakinankaratra region in the Antananarivo province .
The city is about 1500 meters above sea level . After Fianarantsoa, it is the most important center in Betsileo country. During the colonial days Antsirabe was called the Vichy of Madagascar because of its thermal springs .
Mohammed V and his son, who later became King Hassan II of Morocco , lived here in French exile in 1955 .
Economy & Transport
Antsirabe is Madagascar's second largest industrial center. The largest textile factory in the country is located in this city. Antsirabe has an airport and is connected to the capital Antananarivo by the national road 7 and a railway line.
