Vakinankaratra is one of 22 regions ( Faritra ) of Madagascar in the center of the island. In 2014 about 1.85 million people lived in the region. The 22 regions of Madagascar were founded in June 2004. On April 4, 2007, Marc Ravalomanana held a referendum on an amendment to the constitution, which established a new administrative structure without provinces from October 2009. The regions thus became the first administrative unit.

Vakinankaratra is located in the central highlands of Madagascar and has an area of ​​16,599 km². The capital is Antsirabe .

Vakinankaratra borders the regions Analamanga , Itasy and Bongolava in the north ; to the east at Alaotra-Mangoro and Atsinanana ; to the south by Amoron'i Mania and to the west by Menabe .

The valleys and Antandrokomby Sahatany in Vakinankaratra are exceptional Rhodizitvorkommen known where up to three centimeters, cubic and tetrahedral found crystals.

The national road 7 (RN 7) runs from the north via Ambohibary and Antsirabe to Toliara in southwest Madagascar. National road 43 (RN 43) joins the RN 7 at Ambohibary when coming from the north-west. The national road 34 joins the RN 7 at Antsirabe.
