Geographical location in Mauritius

Vacoas-Phoenix is the second largest city on the island of Mauritius with 106,253 inhabitants (as of 2016) and is located on a plateau in the center of the island in the Plaines Wilhems district . The city is between Curepipe and Quatre Bornes , about 16 km south of Port Louis . The city was created in 1963 by merging the towns of Vacoas and Phoenix.

history

The British Naval Office had its headquarters in Vacoas. For the first domestic flight on June 2, 1922, a British biplane from the First World War was shipped to Mauritius by sea and reassembled in Vacoas. This flight marks the beginning of the history of aviation in Mauritius .
