The Apostolic Vicariate of Hosanna was founded on January 20, 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Pro summo through the division of the Apostolic Vicariate Soddo-Hosanna into the Apostolic Vicariates Hosanna and Soddo . Woldeghiorghis Mathewos became the first Vicar Apostolic .
