Woldeghiorghis Mathewos (* 1942 in Wassera , Ethiopia ) is an Ethiopian clergyman and emeritus Vicar Apostolic of Hosanna .

Life

Woldeghiorghis Mathewos attended St. Anthony's High School di Goa in India from 1960 to 1962 . From 1962 to 1969 he studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Seminary "Saint Peter" in Bangalore (India) . On May 4, 1969, Mathewos was ordained the first local priest in the Vicariate Apostolic Soddo-Hosanna. From 1969 to 1978 he was director of the Vicariate's catechesis center and instructor at the Minor Seminary in Oletta . From 1978 to 1981 he was Secretary of the Vicar Apostolic and Deputy Vicar . From 1981 to 1994 he was pastor in the parishes of Hosanna and Wassera. From 1995 to 2004 he was employed as the rector of the Hosanna Propaedeutic Seminary . As Spiritual of the Major Seminary Soddo-Hosanna in Addis Ababa and deputy rector of the seminary, he worked from 2005 by 2010.

On January 20, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI ordered initiated the establishment of the new Vicariate Apostolic Hosanna and appointed Woldeghiorghis Mathews Vicar Apostolic of Hosanna and Titular Bishop of Turuda . The Metropolitan and Archbishop of Addis Ababa Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel CM donated him the episcopal ordination on April 11, 2010 . As co-consecrators the bishops assisted Rodrigo Mejía Saldarriaga SJ , Apostolic Vicar of Soddo , and Giovanni Migliorati , Apostolic Vicar of Awasa .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on April 8, 2017.
