The Disney Dream ( English for dream is) a Panamax - cruise ship of the American shipping company Disney Cruise Line . She is the first ship that the shipping company had built at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg ( Emsland ). With a length of almost 340 meters and a measurement of around 130,000 GT, the Disney Dream was the largest cruise ship built in Germany when it was delivered in December 2010. She has a sister ship with Disney Fantasy .

history

On April 24, 2007, the Disney Cruise Line ordered the two post-Panamax cruise ships Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy from Meyer-Werft in Papenburg . The cutting of the shipbuilding steel began on March 2, 2009 and the keel was laid at the end of August of the same year . On June 1, 2010, the last building block, a 260-ton part of the bow, was installed. After undocking on October 30, 2010, the Disney Dream was transferred from Papenburg via the dammed Ems to Eemshaven on the night of November 12th to 13th, 2010 , from where the shipyard test drives began and the ship was equipped.

A final docking took place in the Elbe 17 dry dock from November 22 to 28, 2010 . The last transfer took place under the flag of the Meyer shipyard via Hamburg to Bremerhaven . There the ship was handed over from the Meyer shipyard to the President of the Disney Cruise Line, Karl Holz, on December 9th - symbolized by the traditional change of flag. At the Columbuskaje the equipment and supplies as well as the ship's crew were completed; Captain Tom Forberg took command of the ship.

The transfer from Bremerhaven to Florida began on December 19, 2010. The Disney Dream is used on routes in the Caribbean . The ship was christened on January 19, 2011 by the American singer and actress Jennifer Hudson . After a two-day short cruise for press staff and competition winners, the Disney Dream left Port Canaveral on January 26, 2011 for her maiden voyage .

technology

The Disney Dream is measured with almost 130,000 GT, 339.5 meters long, 36.8 meters wide and has 14 passenger decks and 1,250 cabins.

particularities

The appearance of the ship is based on the passenger ships of the 1930s and has both Art Deco design elements and elements from the world of Disney. The hull is black, the superstructure white with two red chimneys.

The inside cabins of the Disney Dream all have a "virtual porthole" on which a high-resolution real-time view of the sea is displayed. In addition, Disney characters from the animated films Finding Nemo or Mickey Mouse are played.

One of the attractions on board is the water slide called "AquaDuck". It is 233 meters long and has four decks.
