history

Converteam story

Converteam International

Converteam goes back to a merger of various electrical engineering companies, some of which have a history of over a hundred years, from Germany, England, France and the USA. The Cegelec Industrial Group was formed through mergers and takeovers in 1989 , which nine years later became part of the Alstom Group in 1998 as the Alstom Power Conversion Group . As a result of the debt- financed takeover ( LBO ) of the investment company Barcleys Private Equity France, the power conversion division was split off from Alstom in 2005 and renamed Converteam in 2006 . The second change of shareholders took place in 2008, so that the company was owned by Barcleys Private Equity, LBO France and Converteam management.

In 1983 the company moved to the newly built factory in Culemeyerstraße in Berlin-Marienfelde . In 1995 Cegelec took over the company and in 1998 it was transferred to the Alstom group. Until August 2, 2012, the location was the headquarters of Converteam GmbH, now known as GE Energy Power Conversion .
