The Apostolic Vicariate of Iquitos ( lat. : Apostolicus Vicariatus iquitosensis ) is in Peru located Roman Catholic Apostolic Vicariate with headquarters in Iquitos .

history

The Apostolic Vicariate of Iquitos was established on February 5, 1900 from the cession of territory by the Diocese of Chachapoyas as the Apostolic Prefecture of San León del Amazonas . On February 22, 1921, the Apostolic Prefecture of San León del Amazonas was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate.

On August 1, 1945, the name of the Vicariate Apostolic San León del Amazonas was changed to Vicariate Apostolic Iquitos .

The Apostolic Vicariate gave up parts of its territory several times in its history to establish new Apostolic Prefectures.
