Arcângelo Cerqua
Arcângelo Cerqua PIME (born January 2, 1917 in Giugliano in Campania , Province of Naples , † February 16, 1990 ) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Parintins in Brazil .
Life
Arcangelo Cerqua joined the Congregation of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions in and received on 29 June 1940, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
Pope Pius XII appointed him on March 15, 1956 as Apostolic Administrator of the Parintins Territorial Prelature, established in the previous year .
On February 4, 1961 he was by Pope John XXIII. appointed Prelate of Parintins and Titular Bishop of Olbia . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil, Archbishop Armando Lombardi , donated him episcopal ordination on May 14 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Manaus , João de Souza Lima OCist , and the Prelate of Macapá , Aristide Pirovano PIME.
He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. On May 26, 1978 he renounced his titular seat due to the changed allocation guidelines . With the elevation of the territorial prelature to the diocese of Parintins on October 30, 1980 he was appointed its first diocesan bishop .
Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation on July 15, 1989.
