Arcadia was a British band formed in 1985 as a side project by Duran Duran .
history
After the release of " A View to a Kill " , the title song for the James Bond film of the same name (German title: " Im Angesicht des Todes "), Simon Le Bon , Roger Taylor and Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran founded the side project in mid-1985 Arcadia , to experiment musically and break new ground. The band name Arcadia was inspired by the painting Et in Arcadia ego by the French painter Nicolas Poussin .
The first single, Election Day , was released in the late summer of 1985 and made it into the top 10 in the US and UK .
With the only album So Red the Rose , Arcadia achieved a platinum success in the fall of 1985 , which was supported by guest appearances by Grace Jones , Sting , Herbie Hancock and David Gilmour .
As further singles, the titles The Promise and The Flame were released in the spring of 1986 . Also in 1986 the single Say The Word , which was not on the album, was released, the theme song for the film Playing for Keeps .
The music of Arcadia is characterized by a partly melancholic and extremely synthesizer- heavy sound.
The project ended in the summer of 1986 with the reunion of Duran Duran and the recording of the album Notorious , with Roger Taylor announcing his temporary exit from the music business.
