Richard Hindorf
Richard Hindorf (born November 17, 1863 in Ruhrort near Duisburg ; † May 13, 1954 in Berlin-Dahlem ) was a German tropical planter and agricultural scientist .
Hindorf studied agriculture and statistics in Halle and Berlin and received his doctorate in Halle in 1886 with the dissertation on the influence of magnesium chloride and calcium chloride on the germination and first development of some important cultivated plants . He worked in various tropical and subtropical countries, such as New Guinea , Australia , Java , Sumatra , Sri Lanka , Egypt and German East Africa . From 1893 to 1894 he stayed in Namibia and South Africa , where he pioneered the cultivation of sisal plantations . He also introduced cultivation in German East Africa through the Amani Research Institute for Colonial Botany .
Hindorf was one of the founders of the Colonial Economic Committee and the German Colonial School in Witzenhausen . He was the author of several specialist books.
