The Arenenberg is a ship of the Swiss Shipping Company Untersee und Rhein (URh) with home port Schaffhausen .

history

In the 1970s, the volume of traffic on the Untersee and Hochrhein increased more and more. The two small pre-war motor ships Munot (1936) and Arenenberg (1936) were no longer able to cope with the volume of traffic and were only used on secondary courses. That is why the Swiss shipping company Untersee und Rhein decided to order a new ship the size of Schaffhausen and Thurgau from the Bodan shipyard .

The maiden voyage of the new Arenenberg took place on July 16, 1983. It replaced its name predecessor from 1936. The sister ship, the Munot , was replaced by the new Munot in 1998 and retired.

On the night of September 6, 2007, the Arenenberg was untied in the port of Kreuzlingen . Police and fire brigade recovered the ship floating in the harbor basin. There was minor property damage.

For the 2015 season, the Arenenberg in the URh shipyard in Langwiesen was completely overhauled, renovated and converted to make it suitable for the disabled. The interiors have been redesigned.

Naming

The ship is named after Arenenberg Castle on Untersee in the municipality of Salenstein in the canton of Thurgau . The future French Emperor Napoléon III. spent part of his childhood in the castle. Today the castle is accessible as a museum.

Technical details

In order to ensure passage under the Rhine bridge Diessenhofen – Gailingen even during floods , the roof of the wheelhouse and the sun roof can be lowered , as is the case with all URh ships except for the Konstanz .

The ship offers a total of 350 passengers a seat, 124 of which are in the hall. 121 outside seats are covered and 105 uncovered.
