history

As Ferry Himuka (2005)

The Rainbow Bell was built under construction number 1020 in the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries shipyard in Shimonoseki and was launched on December 8, 1995. On March 28, 1996, the ship was delivered to the Japanese Kyu-Etsu Ferry Company and put into service in the same month on the route from Hakata to Jōetsu .

In September 2001 the Rainbow Bell ended its service for the Kyu-Etsu Ferry Company. The new owner was the Shuttle Highway Line, which used the ship between Kyūshū and Yokosuka from July 2002 . In August 2005, the ferry under the name Ferry Himuka became the property of the Miyazaki Car Ferry shipping company.

After another year of ferry service in Japan, the Ferry Himuka went to the Greek shipping company Hellenic Seaways in November 2006 and was named Ariadne in December . After the ship's arrival in Keratsini in January 2007, conversion work followed for further service in the Mediterranean. On September 25, 2007, the Ariadne was put into service on the route from Piraeus to Chania .

In the following years, the Ariadne regularly changed the service route and was also chartered to other shipping companies. From January to March 2008 she worked for Minoan Lines and several times for ANEK Lines and Algerie Ferries . Most recently she served since October 2013 under the management of the Hellenic Seaways between Piraeus, Chios and Mytilini .

The Ariadne has been chartered to the Italian shipping company Tirrenia - Compagnia italiana di navigazione since March 2018 and is in use on the route from Naples / Palermo to Cagliari.
