The Arklow-C-Class is a coaster class consisting of five units so far (as of July 2019). The construction of a total of ten ships in the series is planned. The ships are built by the Dutch shipyard Ferus Smit for the Irish shipping company Arklow Shipping.

description

The ships are from a four-stroke - six-cylinder - diesel engine of the manufacturer Caterpillar driven. The MaK 6M25 motors have an output of 1,740 kW and act via a reduction gear on a controllable  pitch propeller with a Kort nozzle . The ships can thus reach around 11  kn . Two diesel generators , each with an output of 166 kW (208  kVA apparent power ) and a shaft generator with 340 kW output (425 kVA apparent power) are available for generating electricity. A diesel generator with 80 kW power (100 kVA apparent power) serves as an emergency generator. The ships are equipped with a bow thruster with 275 kW.

The deckhouse is in the rear of the ships. It has four decks. In front of the deckhouse is the hold , which is 59.8 m long, 12.6 m wide and 8.5 m high. The hold is box-shaped. Only in the front area does it tapers to around 10 m in length. The hold is closed with pontoon hatch covers that can be moved using a hatch trolley. The ships are equipped with two bulkheads that can be erected in eleven positions. The loading space is 6,130.6 m³. The tank cover can be loaded with 15 t / m², the hatch cover with 1.75 t / m².

The ships have a pointed bow shape without a bulbous bow, which should lead to a reduced water resistance and thus lower fuel consumption. The hull of the ships is reinforced with ice (ice class 1A).
