The corylopsis pauciflora or Armblütige flowers hazel ( Corylopsis pauciflora ) is a primrose yellow flowering shrub from the family of hamamelidaceae (Hamamelidaceae). The natural range of the species is in Japan and Taiwan. It is often used as an ornamental shrub.

description

The Armblütige Scheinhasel is a densely branched shrub with fine shoots with bare shoots that can grow to a height of 2 meters. The leaves are divided into a petiole and a leaf blade. The stem is 5 to 10 millimeters long, thin and hairy. The leaf blade is simple, ovate-oval to broadly ovate, 3 to 6.5 centimeters long and 2 to 3.5 centimeters wide, pointed with a slate, rounded or more or less heart-shaped base and above the center, cupped and prickly serrated leaf margin. Six to eight pairs of nerves are formed. The upper side of the leaf is light green and bare, the underside is blue-green and lightly silvery hairy on the leaf veins and on the leaf edge.

The inflorescences are short spikes of two to five flowers on short, bare stems. The basal bracts are ovate-round, 8 to 10 millimeters long, light green inside, red and bare outside. The bracts of the single flowers are broadly ovate, 7 to 8 millimeters long, glabrous to shiny hairy. The bracts are slightly shorter than the bracts. The sepals are triangular, glabrous with a blunt tip. The petals are broadly ovate and 6 to 7 millimeters long. The scales of the discus are unlapped with a clipped tip. The stamens are 5 to 6 millimeters long and light yellow. The ovary is bare, the styles are 5 to 6 millimeters long and yellow. The capsule fruits are 6 to 8 millimeters long and glabrous.

The arm-flowered hazel flowers from May to July, the fruits ripen from July to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.

Occurrence and location requirements

The natural range is in Japan on the island of Honshū and on Taiwan . The arm-flowered false hazel grows in cool, moist forests at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters on well-drained, fresh to moist, acidic to neutral, sandy or gritty-humic, moderately nutrient-rich soils in light-shaded and winter-mild locations. The species is sensitive to frost.

Systematics

The corylopsis pauciflora ( Corylopsis pauciflora ) is a kind of the genus of corylopsis ( Corylopsis ) in the family of hamamelidaceae (Hamamelidaceae). There it is assigned to the tribe Corylopsideae in the subfamily Hamamelidoideae. Philipp Franz von Siebold and Joseph Gerhard Zuccarini first described the species in 1836 in the Flora Japonica . The generic name Corylopsis is derived from Corylos , the generic name of the hazel , and from the Greek word "opsis" for "appearance". It corresponds to the German name Scheinhaseln and refers to the similarity of leaves and inflorescences with those of hazelnuts. The specific epithet pauciflora comes from Latin and means "arm-flowered" after the reduced number of individual flowers in contrast to the other species of the genus.

use

The arm-flowered false hazel is often used as an ornamental shrub due to its decorative and fragrant flowers and impressive autumn colors .
