Arnold Käch

Arnold Käch (born February 4, 1914 in Bern , † November 24, 1998 in Calgary , Canada ) was a Swiss officer , ski athlete and official and author.

Life

Käch, son of the engineer Arnold Otto Käch and his wife Berta, b. Scholl studied law at the Universities of Lausanne , Bern , Paris , the United States and Canada from 1933 to 1939 and was admitted to the bar in 1939 . During this time he was at the Olympic Winter Games 1936 in the rank of lieutenant participant of the Swiss team in the demonstration competition military patrol , which achieved sixth place. On January 9, 1937, he won the first Citadin race in Mürren . From 1939 to 1940 he worked as a lawyer in the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (EVD), after which he was an assistant to the Swiss military and air attaché in Berlin until 1943 and then military and air attaché in Stockholm , Oslo and Copenhagen . In the meantime he married Louisa Hendrika Jeannette Wagemans in 1941. From July 1, 1947 to 1957, as a general staff officer, he was the first director of the Eidgenössische Gym- und Sportschule (ETS) Magglingen and during his term of office he contributed to the expansion and rise of ETS Magglingen to what is now the Federal Office for Sport FOSPO. From 1951 to mid-1961 he was General Secretary of the Fédération Internationale de Ski . As a writer, he received the Swiss Sports Award in the artist category in 1957. From 1957 to 1979 he was director of the Swiss Federal Military Administration, was promoted to brigadier in 1967 and was in the meantime commander of Border Brigade 11 from 1967 to 1972 . He was a member of the Swiss Olympic Association and the Commission for the allocation of responsibilities between the federal government and the cantons, as well as, among others, since 1983 guest of honor at the annual since 1978 in Grindelwald discharged, international SAS - Pentathlon -Wettkämpfen.
