Arnold Klünder

Arnold Klünder (born November 3, 1909 in Groß Stepenitz , Pomerania , † December 23, 1976 in Rostock ) was a German painter, graphic artist and ceramist.

Life

Arnold Klünder was born in Groß Stepenitz on the Oder, not far from the Stettiner Haff, as the son of a teacher. After studying at the arts and crafts schools in Stettin and Berlin-Charlottenburg , here a. a. with Hans Orlowski , he worked as a freelance painter and graphic artist in Berlin. As a summer guest he stayed several times in Ahrenshoop on the Baltic Sea during this time . In 1943 he married the painter and ceramist Barbara Koch (1919–1988), daughter of the artist couple Fritz Koch-Gotha and Dora Koch-Stetter . The couple lived with their in-laws in their house in Althagenon the Fischland . Klünder mainly created works with maritime motifs. In addition, he documented the reconstruction of Berlin on behalf of the National Development Committee .

From 1950 he devoted himself to pottery and founded a ceramic workshop with his wife in 1956. Together with the painter Frida Löber (1910–1989) and the sculptor and ceramist Wilhelm Löber (1903–1981) they developed the “Fischland ceramics ” from 1955. He was also known for his voluntary work with Georg Hülsse and other artists in the Ahrenshooper Kulturbund . The couple's children, Susanne (* 1943) and Johann (* 1950), also became artistically active.

The grave of the Klünder family is in the cemetery of the Baltic resort of Wustrow .
