Arnold Preuss

Arnold Preuß (born September 20, 1951 in Wilhelmshaven ) is a German theater director , actor , director , radio play speaker and translator .

In 2016 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on the ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his many years of voluntary work in the field of maintaining and promoting the Low German language, drama and youth cultural work.

After graduating from business school, he began training in local government in 1969 and became a civil servant for life. As part of his training, he studied at the Lower Saxony Study Institute for Local Administration. The course ended with a degree in administrative management (FH).

Since 1973 he has been a member of the private theater "Theaters am Meer" - Niederdeutsche Bühne Wilhelmshaven .

He has played more than 90 roles to date and has directed more than 60 plays. He received his private acting training through participation in professionally led seminars of the Low German Theater Association as well as through the engagement of professional directors at the Theater am Meer. These were among others Walter Bäumer, Kurt Büscher, Albrecht C. Dennhardt , Kurt Frost , Georg Immelmann , Rudolf Plent, Elke Münch, Ulrich Herold, Philip Lüsebrink and Ulf Goerges.

After having been a member of the stage board since 1976, he took over the management of the theater on September 14, 1985 and held this position until May 1995. Together with Marion Zomerland, he took over the management again on May 16, 2003. Together, as dual leaders from the Low German stage, they have now created a fully functional private theater that operates its own room theater with 99 seats.

A theater school for young people between the ages of 14 and 18 was attached to the small theater. This is where young, interested people are taught the skills of the theater and the Low German language is learned through play. For this work, the theater was awarded a sponsorship prize in 2007 by the Oldenburg landscape. Since June 15, 2017, Arnold Preuss has been running the Theater am Meer alone again. Since September 2019 Martina Brünjes, theater pedagogue, director and player from Ganderkesee / Bürstel has been in charge of the Theater am Meer theater school.

Landesbühne Lower Saxony North

From 1987 on he was administrative director and later commercial manager of the Landesbühne Niedersachsen-Nord . In the period from 1996 to 1998 he was also the interim artistic director who carried out the duties of artistic director.

Since September 3, 2005 until today Preuß has been President of the Lower Saxony and Bremen regional association of the Low German Stage Association . During his tenure, the annual youth theater days were created, at which the theater schools of the theaters and stages of the Bühnenbund meet in order to present their productions to each other, but also to network. Preuss has also introduced the annual stage management meeting as part of a future workshop.

As a translator, he has translated over 60 pieces into Low German since 1988. As a result, plays by Brecht ( Mr. Puntila and his servant Matti ), Gogol ( The Auditor ), Moliere ( The Conceited Sick ), Hebbel ( Maria Magdalena ) and Goldoni ( The Servant of Two Masters ) were discovered for the Low German Theater.

Projects

In October 2018 he was engaged in the role of Worpswede chronicler Ed Koenemann on the experimental shoot for the project development for “Die Paradies-Sucher” (working title) in front of the “Käseglocke” in Worpswede.
