Georg Immelmann

Georg Immelmann (born April 30, 1935 in Berlin ) is a German theater director and artistic director .

Life

After graduating from high school in Hanover , Georg Immelmann studied theater studies , German literature and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin from 1955 . At times he headed the student stage of the Theater Studies Institute. He found his first engagement in 1959 at the Landesbühne Hannover , initially as an assistant director, later as a dramaturge and director. In 1964 he moved to the stages of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck , where he acted as chief dramaturge and senior director of the theater. From 1968 to 1970 Immelmann worked as a freelancer and staged, among others, in Aachen , Kiel , Oldenburg and Wiesbaden . In 1970 there was a permanent engagement at the Theater Aachen as director and chief dramaturge.

In 1979 he was appointed director of the Lower Saxony North State Theater in Wilhelmshaven . For 15 years he shaped the theater work at the far apart theaters in northwest Germany. After a period of freelance work, he took over the management of the Gandersheim Cathedral Festival in 1998 . During this time he founded the Musical Academy Bad Gandersheim , which offered unemployed musical performers training opportunities in the fields of acting, singing and dance. From 2003 to 2006 Immelmann lectured at the Theaterschule Aachen and simultaneously staged in Bremerhaven , Hamburg , Hanover and Bamberg .

Immelmann's spectrum ranges from the classics (with a focus on works by Shakespeare , Lessing , Hauptmann and Brecht ) through musicals to children's and youth theater . At all stages of his career, however, he also showed great interest in modern drama. In Lübeck, he staged the documentary piece The Investigation by Peter Weiss (1967) based on the first Frankfurt Auschwitz Trial . As artistic director at the Landesbühne in Wilhelmshaven, he put the intellectually challenging play The new process by the same author, directed by Johannes Kaetzler , on the program (1984), which earned his theater a top position in the annual critics ranking of the specialist journal Theater heute . As a director, he was responsible for the German-language premiere of Pavel Kohout's comedy Der arme Cyrano (based on Rostand , 1983) and the world premiere of the children's play Der kleine August , also by Kohout (1984). Also , the funniest country of Einar Schleef was first performed under the direction of Georg Immelmann (1984).

Immelmann edited prose material for the stage several times, e.g. B. Victor Hugo's The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (2000), Marguerite Duras ' The Pain (2002), Ulla Hahn's Blurred Pictures (2004) and Isabel Allende's The Lovers in the Guggenheim Museum (2011). Since 2010 Immelmann has been involved in various off-theaters , including the aixpertentheater in Aachen , which visits unusual venues, such as the chapel of the Episcopal Academy of the Diocese of Aachen (2011) or for the performance of Dangerous Liaisons (based on the letter novel by Choderlos de Laclos ) for the lovers in the Guggenheim Museum the Aachen Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum (2011/2012). At the Little Theater Aachen he staged the 2014/15 with two actors dance by Arthur Schnitzler .
