The Arpe , called the Brachter Bach in the upper reaches , is a 7.3 km long orographically left tributary of the Wenne in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany . The stream flows in the west of the Hochsauerlandkreis and should not be confused with the tributary of the same name, the Arpe der Wenne near Berge . Except in local locations, the stream flows through the Arpetal landscape protection area between Arpe and Niederberndorf and the Arpetal and Seismecke landscape protection area with spring tributaries to the west and south-west of the Arpe .

The Arpe rises on the saddle between Bracht (599.1 m) and Helle (620.9 m) at an altitude of 501  m above sea level. NN as Brachter Bach . From here the stream flows mainly to the northeast. The brook is piped in the area of Bracht . From the mouth of the Schleddesiepen , about 1 km northeast of Bracht, the course of the river is called the Arpe. After flowing through the village of the same name Arpe , the stream flows into Niederberndorf at an altitude of 339  m above sea level. NN on the left in the Wenne .

On its 7.3 km long path, the stream overcomes a height difference of 162 m, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 22.2 ‰. The Arpe drains a 17.447 km² catchment area via Wenne, Ruhr and Rhine to the North Sea .

The most important tributary of the Arpe is the 4.5 km long Mühlenbach .
