Arthur Anthony Aragon (born November 13, 1927 in Belen , New Mexico , † March 25, 2008 in Northridge , Los Angeles ) was an American professional boxer. He was nicknamed "Golden Boy".

Life

Aragon grew up in East Los Angeles . He was married five times and had six children. He was especially friends with Mamie van Doren and cultivated friendships with Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe , Sophia Loren , Betty Martin and Jayne Mansfield .

He was a boxer since 1944. In 1950 he became known with two victories (technical knockouts) over the Mexican Enrique Bolaños in the Olympic Hall of the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in front of 10,000 spectators. His first professional fight in the lightweight he played in May 1944 against the French Frenchy Rene in Los Angeles. He won another eleven fights. It was not until October 1944 that he was beaten by Bert White . He boxed against Tommy Campbell , Jesse Flores , Teddy "Redtop" Davis , Jimmy Carter and Carmen Basilio , among others . In 1960 he resigned as an active boxer. He was able to record 90 wins, of which 62 with a knockout , 20 defeats and 6 draws. With this record, he was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.

He later played in films such as Fat City or To Hell and Back, and in American television series such as Quincy , Baretta and Barnaby Jones .
