Arthur Grunewald
Arthur Grunewald (born June 30, 1902 in Wilhelmshaven ; † May 2, 1985 ibid) was a German politician and Lord Mayor of Wilhelmshaven ( SPD ).
Arthur Grunewald was appointed to the Wilhelmshaven City Council on October 17, 1945 . At the same time he worked as head of economic development.
In 1968 he was elected to the City Council of Wilhelmshaven as an SPD member. At the same time he held the office of mayor. In 1972 he was elected Lord Mayor and held this office until 1976. He was replaced in office by Eberhard Krell .
He was also the head of the fire department and disaster control .
Honors
- Because of his services to the traffic education of young people, he was awarded the Golden Badge of Honor in 1979 by the German Traffic Guard.
- On June 30, 1977 he was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Wilhelmshaven.
- In 1980 he became honorary chairman of the district association of the German Red Cross .
- The guard building of the Bant Volunteer Fire Brigade ( Wilhelmshaven Fire Brigade ) is dedicated to him.
- Arthur-Grunewald-Straße in the Wilhelmshaven district of Voslapp has been named after him since 2013.
