Friedrich Paffrath

Friedrich Paffrath (born September 9, 1896 in Remscheid ; † April 26, 1955 in Wilhelmshaven ) was a German politician and, shortly after the Second World War, acting Lord Mayor of Wilhelmshaven.

Career

Paffrath studied law and political science at the Universities of Marburg and Cologne . There he acquired the diploma for municipal civil servants in 1921 and was awarded the title of Dr. rer. pole. PhD . He then worked initially in his hometown of Remscheid as a municipal employee and was appointed city syndic in Saalfeld in 1922. In 1925 he was appointed First Mayor of Schmölln .

On April 8, 1929, he was elected mayor of the city of Rüstringen as successor to Paul Hug and was introduced to his office on May 6, 1929. After the seizure of power of the Nazis in 1933 Paffrath was pushed from office and held with difficulty as trade and industry representatives in Kiel afloat. From 1943 he performed in an office of the Navy in Blankenburg in the Harz military service . After the collapse of the Nazi regime, Paffrath was mayor of Blankenburg for a short time, but was appointed provisional mayor of the city of Wilhelmshaven just a few weeks later. On October 1, 1945, he moved to the office of the full-time, highest administrative officer of the city as senior city ​​director. Paffrath's successor in the office of Lord Mayor was Reinhard Nieter .

Paffrath's main tasks in the city, which was badly damaged by the war, were mainly in the reconstruction of apartments, schools and streets as well as in the settlement of new industries that created a new livelihood for the city apart from its function as a naval port and naval shipyard.

In addition to his work as City Director, Paffrath was also a board member of the Lower Saxony City Council and the Oldenburg State Welfare Association .

In Wilhelmshaven there is Friedrich-Paffrath-Straße in recognition of his services.
