Eberhard Krell

Eberhard Krell (born November 12, 1938 in Bottrop , † September 27, 2006 in Ehingen ) is a former German local politician of the SPD . He was mayor of the city of Wilhelmshaven from 1972 to 1976 and lord mayor from 1976 to 1981 .

Life

Krell learned the trade of model maker . At the age of 19 he joined the SPD. At the age of 20, Krell was the youngest full-time trade union secretary in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 1961 he came to Wilhelmshaven and became managing director of the trade union trade, banks and insurance companies . Krell later switched to the private sector and became operations manager of the Wilhelmshaven tank and ship cleaning company.

Krell remained active in the SPD and became SPD district chairman in the Wilhelmshaven district of Altengroden . At the age of 29 he was elected to the city council for the first time . Other offices were deputy SPD sub-district chairman and parliamentary group chairman in the city council. In 1972, at the age of 34, he was elected honorary mayor, making him one of the youngest mayors in Lower Saxony .

During his time as mayor, he supported the ailing mayor Arthur Grunewald and took on a large part of his duties. In 1976 he was elected Lord Mayor to succeed Grunewald. During his time as mayor, the large industrial settlements arose on the Außenjade in the east of Wilhelmshaven. In addition to the former city ​​director Gerhard Eickmeier, he had a decisive influence on these settlements .

The book "Dirty Swamp" with the subtitle "Corporations, Communes, Corruptions" was published in 1983 about the activities in the settlements, in which there was reports on felt and corruption in connection with the settlements. The publication of the book ultimately led to the election of the City Director Gerhard Eickmeier on March 22, 1984.

In 1984 Krell resigned from the city council after 16 years of membership and switched to the regional energy supply company Thüga in Baden-Württemberg . Since then Krell has lived in Ehingen in Baden-Württemberg, a district of the community of Mühlhausen-Ehingen .

Krell was married and had three children.
