Arthur König (politician, 1950)
Arthur König (born December 8, 1950 in Gardelegen ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and was Lord Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Greifswald . He was previously a member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament .
Life
education
König graduated from high school and trained as a mechanical engineer in Gardelegen by 1969. From 1969 to 1973 he then studied physics at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald . After completing his studies, he did a doctorate and became a research assistant at the Medical Faculty of the University of Greifswald.
politics
König joined the GDR CDU in 1986 and was elected to the citizenship of the Hanseatic City of Greifswald after the fall of the Wall in 1990 , where he led the CDU parliamentary group from 1994 to 2001.
From 1998 to 2001 he was directly elected member of the state parliament of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for the Greifswald constituency , until he ran for the post of mayor in Greifswalds in 2001 and won the election. In 2001 he was able to prevail against Hinrich Kuessner ( SPD ) in the second ballot with 51.2% of the votes .
For the mayoral election on April 13, 2008, König again ran as a candidate for the CDU. He won the first ballot with 59.8% of the vote and remained in office for another seven years until 2015.
In May 2015, Stefan Fassbinder ( Greens ) won the election as Lord Mayor of Greifswald in a runoff election by 15 votes. Since the CDU candidate Jörg Hochheim had contested the result of the election together with a citizen, Arthur König remained mayor for the time being. On September 28, 2015, the Greifswald citizenship determined that the election was valid, which is why Fassbinder became Lord Mayor. The official handover took place on October 30, 2015.
König is chairman of the supervisory board of Stadtwerke Greifswald and chairman of the supervisory board of power supply Greifswald GmbH. During his tenure as Lord Mayor he was also deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Grimmener Stadtwerke , member of the supervisory board of Gasversorgung Greifswald GmbH, member of the advisory board of BioTechnikum Greifswald GmbH, member of the educational advisory board of the BiG-Bildungszentrum in Greifswald gGmbH, chairman of the administrative board of Sparkasse Vorpommern and Deputy member of the association assembly of the East German Savings Banks Association .
family
Arthur König is of Protestant denomination, married and has a son and a daughter. He is married to the teacher and former President of the Synod of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church Elke König (* 1956). His wife is a member of the seven-member presidium of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany .
