On February 14, 1989, Ayatollah Khomeini called on all Muslims to kill the author and his publishers. The commercial register shows that the Article 19 publishing house was founded on the same day.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights includes, by Article 19, the freedom of expression . This is what the name of the publisher refers to.

Less than two weeks after the murder call, it was clear that at least two dozen publishers were participating in the publication. Publishers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland took part . Around ninety publishers and well over a hundred editors were found by August 1989. "Die satanischen Verse" in German has been in stores since October 17, 1989.
