Artur Klose (born March 29, 1971 in Krappitz , Poland ) is a German artist , curator and author.

Live and act

Klose grew up in Klein Strehlitz . He belonged to a family of German descent whose name was forcibly changed to Kosa. After primary school, Klose attended the Lyceum for Fine Arts in Opole . As a thesis, he created a twelve square meter mural with fairy tale heroes in the kindergarten in Pechhütte . He graduated from the Lyceum in 1991.

Shortly afterwards he moved to Germany in 1991, but his degree was not recognized. Klose had to take the German Abitur and learned German in 1992. In 1994 he moved to Kassel and began studying visual communication at the Kassel Art College . He studied in the animation class of Professor Paul Driessen . His first film was made during his studies, the one-minute short film A Worm Named Jacques (1996). After the short film had been presented at over 20 international film festivals, Klose received a grant from the Cusanuswerk . For the 850th anniversary of the founding of Moscow , he made the film The Cork.

For his diploma thesis, Klose chose a book project about Kassel. He created the comic characters "Bobby and Molly," which in his first book Mysterious Kassel led through the city's sights. Bobby and Molly became important figures in his future works. Further publications followed the example of the book Mysterious Kassel . He regularly drew a comic for the Schlesisches Wochenblatt .

Klose also works with children and young people and regularly offers workshops. Together with the Goethe Institute , he developed a project with which young people abroad are to be excited about the German language and culture. With the support of the Goethe-Institut Krakau, Klose published the German-Polish book Mysterious Oppelner Land in 2008 .

In 2014 - at the same time as the opening of the Winter Olympics in Sochi - Klose organized an exhibition in Kassel of the satirical works of the series Welcome Sochi! by the Russian artist Wassilij Slonow. An exhibition of works from this series in the Russian city of Perm had previously been closed by the authorities, whose representatives described them as “too unpatriotic” or “anti-Russian”. After moving the exhibition site from Kassel Friedrichsplatz to the significantly smaller signal box at the Kulturbahnhof, Klose criticized the city authorities for this.

On the day of the summer solstice of 2016, Klose founded the German Center of Modern Art. In addition to art exhibitions, he organized the First Festival of Young Georgian Animated Films there in July 2016, for which Georgian youths who had never been abroad before were given the opportunity to come to Germany to travel. For his commitment in this area, Klose was awarded a film prize in Georgia in autumn 2016.
