Artur Waś (born March 27, 1986 in Warsaw ) is a Polish speed skater .

Career

Waś made his debut in the World Cup in November 2005 in Salt Lake City and finished 52nd and 49th over 1000 m. In January 2006 he came in the sprint world championship in Heerenveen on the 35th place in the sprint all-around. At his first Olympic participation in Turin in 2006 , he achieved 32nd place in the 2 × 500 m run. At the 2007 Sprint World Championships in Hamar , he came 27th in the sprint all-around event. In the following years he mostly started in the B World Cup and achieved placements in the midfield. At the Sprint World Championships 2011 in Heerenveen, he achieved 33rd place in the sprint all-around competition. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season he came at the World Cup in Astana with the sixth place over 500 m for the first time under the top ten in an A World Cup individual race. In January 2012 he finished 14th in the sprint all- around at the Sprint World Championships in Calgary . At the individual distance world championships in 2012 in Heerenveen, he was twelfth in the 2 × 500 m run. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season in Heerenveen he achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup with second place over 500 m. In the further course of the season he came in the top ten several times over 500 m and finished the season in 11th place in the overall World Cup over 500 m. At the Sprint World Championships 2013 in Salt Lake City, he achieved 23rd place in the sprint all-around event. In March 2013 he finished 11th in the 2 × 500 m run at the individual distance world championships in Sochi . The following year he finished ninth in the 500 m at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. At the last World Cup of the 2013/14 season in Heerenveen, he finished second in the team pursuit. In the 2014/15 season he won the 500 m twice in Berlin and thus took his first World Cup victories. In the further course of the season he reached three second places over 500 m and thus finished sixth in the overall World Cup over 500 m. At the individual distance world championships in 2015 in Heerenveen, he achieved fifth place in the 2 × 500 m run. In the 2015/16 season he was in the top ten seven times. He finished third and first in Berlin over 500 m and at the end of the season he achieved sixth place in the overall World Cup over 500 m. At the 2016 World Single Distance Championships in Kolomna , he finished seventh in the 2 × 500 m run.

Was became Polish champion in the 2 × 500 m run (2006, 2009, 2012, 2015), in the sprint all-around event (2006, 2011) and over 1000 m (2009).
