Artur Jarosław Zasada (born June 5, 1969 in Zielona Góra ) is a Polish politician of the Porozumienie , member of the European Parliament in the 7th electoral term (2009-2014) and member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland in the 8th electoral term (since 2015) .

Education and professional career

Artur Zasada studied law and graduated in 2000 from the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Wroclaw . From 2006 to 2009 he worked as a manager for international contracts in a transport company before he was appointed director of the Zielona Góra branch of the betting and gaming provider Totalizator Sportowy in 2009.

Political career

Zasada was a member of the Zjednoczenie Chrześcijańsko-Narodowe (ZChN) from 1993 to 2001 , then with the Przymierze Prawicy (PP) and joined together with his party in 2002 the Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS). At the turn of the year 2003/2004 he left the PiS and joined the Platforma Obywatelska (PO). For this he successfully applied for a mandate in the city council of Zielona Góra in the self-government elections in Poland in 2006 .

In the 2009 European elections , he ran as a candidate for Platforma Obywatelska in constituency No. 13 . The party was able to secure two out of four seats in the EU Parliament in the constituency. Zasada, who took second place on the list, barely achieved the mandate with 25,875 (5.85%) of the valid votes cast behind Sławomir Nitras (first place on the list, 107,413 votes, 24.27%); to Magdalena Kochan (25,605, 12.61%) to Rank 3 were not lacking even 300 votes. During the 7th parliamentary term of the European Parliament, he was a member of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) (EPP) and was a member of the Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), the Delegation for relations with Iraq (D-IQ) and the Delegation for relations with Japan (D-JP).

In 2011 Zasada belonged together with the Polish MP Lidia Joanna Geringer de Oedenberg ( SLD , S&D ), the Spanish MP Willy Meyer Bleite ( IU , GUE / NGL ), the Swedish MP Cecilia Wikström ( FP , ALDE ) and the Greek MP Michail Tremopoulos ( Ikologi Prasini , Greens / EFA ) on the initiators of the written declaration on the return of the restricted area of ​​Famagusta to the legal residents (declaration 0042/2011), which was signed by 390 members of the European Parliament by February 2012 and thus accepted. Together with Jarosław Wałęsa , Zasada was granted honorary citizenship of Famagusta by the mayor of Cyprus in exile , Alexis Galanos, in 2012 .

In August 2013, Zasada announced that, in solidarity with the Sejm MPs Jarosław Gowin and Jacek Żalek, he would like to suspend his membership in Platforma Obywatelska for three months. In November 2013 Zasada resigned from the PO, took part in Gowin's "Godzina dla Polski" movement and in January 2014 joined the Polska Razem Jarosława Gowina . At the beginning of January 2014 he moved to the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Parliament . He stood for Polska Razem Jarosława Gowina in the 2014 European elections in constituency No. 12 , but clearly missed re-election with 7,386 (1.12%) of the valid votes cast.

In the 2015 parliamentary elections , Zasada ran for Polska Razem in constituency No. 8 on the list of the electoral committee of Prawo i Sprawiedliwość in fourth place and achieved a mandate for the 8th electoral period of the Sejm with 5,821 (1.68%) of the valid votes cast the Republic of Poland. There he sits for his parliamentary group Prawo i Sprawiedliwość on the Infrastructure Committee and the State Control Committee. He is also a member of the special committee for the examination of proposals for electoral law and the special committee for changes to codifications.

After the conversion of Polska Razem to Porozumienie, he became a member of this party.
