The Asagiri class ( Japanese あ さ ぎ り 型 護衛艦 Asagiri-gata goeikan ) is a class of eight anti- submarine destroyers of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Forces (JMSDF).

General

The Asagiri- class is a further development of the previous Hatsuyuki-class and replaced the destroyers of the Ayanami and Murasame-class in service.

Hull and drive

The hull of an Asagiri- class destroyer is 137 meters long, 14.6 meters wide and has a draft of 4.5 meters with a maximum displacement of 4,200 tons . It is powered by four gas turbines ( COGAG drive ), Kawasaki / Rolls-Royce Spey SM1C , with a total output of 53,900 hp (39,463 kW ). The power is delivered to two shafts with one screw each . The top speed is 30 knots (56 km / h ).

Armament

The armament consists of a 76 mm gun in length 62 ( 76/62 Compact ) from Oto Melara , a starter for anti-submarine missiles of the RUR-5 ASROC type and a Mk.-29 launcher for anti-aircraft missiles of the type RIM-7 Sea Sparrow . Furthermore, there are two four-starter for RGM-84C Harpoon - anti-ship missiles , two triple torpedo tubes type Mk.32 SVTT for Mark-46 lightweight torpedoes and two short-range defense systems of the type phalanx . A Mitsubishi SH-60 helicopter is carried for submarine hunting and other tasks .
