Renatured section in the Grabenwis one year after disclosure

The Aschbach rises at 707  m above sea level. M. on the north slope of the Wassberg, which is just inside Zumikon . The spring is located a little north of the municipal boundary in Wassbergholz, right next to the Forenwis fields , a clearing in the forest area.

It joins immediately with its right branch, which drains the Forenwis underground. It flows through the Wassbergholz in a north-westerly direction, forming a small ravine on the last section to the edge of the forest . In doing so, he passes three contained springs at the exit. In the following section of Grabenwis with fields, the stream was overturned until it was disclosed in 2014. The area called Winterriet used to be a moorland without a clear stream. As a result, the Aschbach runs mainly to the northeast.

He crossed under the Spitzwis and reached the little wood of Leibach , which is cut up by the Ebmatingen - Aesch road . Here it takes up an unnamed stream from the right, which starts in the Spitzwis . Below the road, the Aschbach forms another small ravine in the lower part of the wood , called Holenstud . After the short stretch of forest he reaches the fields of the Bänkelsteg corridor , where he is overtaken again. Here it takes in the water of the Forenwisbach from the right , which rises only around 150 meters northeast of the Aschbach. This is followed by a short open section, accompanied by trees and thick wood, before it crosses under the Ebmatingen – Maur road.

At the Bänkelsteg castle site, it reappears in the Murholz forest area . It flows through the Bänkeltobel (also Benkeltobel), in which it has exposed molasses . After having overcome four waterfalls around 4 meters high, the ravine gradually flattens out. At this point a bridge spans the stream, which is the only connection between the forest on both sides of the stream. Smaller waterfalls follow before he crosses under Stuhlenstrasse and thus leaves the Murholz behind.

It flows in a strip of forest to the Fällanden – Maur road near the hamlet of Aschbach . It crosses under the street and shortly afterwards the access road to the hamlet is channeled, but then flows freely again. Finally the stream flows into a small delta at the border of a campsite at 435  m above sea level. M. in the north-western part of the Greifensee.
