Cesare Asili

Cesare Asili (born September 20, 1924 in Moyo , Uganda , † October 12, 1988 ) was a Ugandan Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Lira .

Life

Asili enrolled in the Lacor Seminary in 1938 and was ordained a priest on June 5, 1955 . After completing further studies in Rome, he worked as education secretary in the diocese of Arua . Already in his youth the devotion to Mary played a special role in Asili's faith , as a bishop he later founded a missionary society consecrated to Mary.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on July 12, 1968 first bishop of the newly established diocese of Lira. He was ordained episcopal on October 27 of the same year by Laurean Cardinal Rugambwa , Bishop of Bukoba . Co- consecrators were Emmanuel Kiwanuka Nsubuga , Archbishop of Kampala and later Cardinal , and Amelio Poggi , Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Uganda. In 1969 Asili received Pope Paul VI. in the Diocese of Lira, in December 1970 he founded the Missionary Sisters of Mary Mother of the Church (MSMMC).

Cesare Asili died of a stroke in 1988 at the age of 64 .
