Asja Valčić

Asja Valčić (* 1967 in Zagreb ) is a Croatian cellist , arranger and composer who has emerged not only in the classical but also in the crossover to jazz .

Live and act

Valčić graduated from the Music Academy in her hometown of Zagreb at the age of 18. She then studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and at the Detmold University of Music .

Valčić has released an album with the pianist Đuro Tikvica with works by Alfred Schnittke and Dimitri Schostakowitsch . Other chamber music partners included members of the Alban Berg Quartet , the Brodsky Quartet and the Melos Quartet . She has also played as a soloist with Zubin Mehta and Kazushi Ōno . In 1995 she won the “Concours international de jeunes concertistes de Douai” in France.

Since it was founded in 2004, Valčić was a member of radio.string.quartet.vienna until 2013, with which she has recorded several albums for Act since 2007 . Ulf Wakenius brought her with the quartet for his album Love Is Real (2008). Since 2009 she has released several albums as a duo with Klaus Paier , with whom she currently runs a quartet. With Adam Bałdych she was part of Iiro Rantala's String Trio .

In 2010, Valčić's compositions were also interpreted by Rigmor Gustafsson with radio.string.quartet.vienna. She can also be heard on Angizia's album Des Winters finsterer Gesell , on Michael Mantler's album The Jazz Composer's Orchestra: Update (2014), on Rolf Kühn's album Spotlights (2016) and on Mia Brentano ’s Hidden Sea (2017).
