Assa ( Kazakh and Russian Аса ) is a place in the Shambyl region in southern Kazakhstan .

geography

Assa is located in southern Kazakhstan in the Shambyl area around 25 kilometers north of Taras . It is the administrative seat of the Shambyl district . Several small tributaries of the Talas flow through the village , including the river Assa of the same name . These are used to irrigate agricultural areas. The wide area is characterized by semi-deserts .

history

The establishment of the place goes back to the construction of the railway line from Taras to the phosphorite deposits in Qaratau in the 1940s. In 1941 a train station was opened here, initially there were only a few houses in the area. The place initially only consisted of the train station, the current settlement was not built until the 1960s.
