The Astenberg is 430  m above sea level. NN high mountain in the foothills of the Rothaargebirge in the southern Siegerland in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The mountain is located about 1.2 km southwest of Oberdielfener , 2.1 km northwest of Wilnsdorfer , 1.8 km northeast of Rinsdorfer and 1.5 km southeast of Obersdorf town center and on a tip of the Obersdorf district, which is between Rinsdorf in the south and Oberdielfen moves in the northeast towards Wilnsdorf and ends slightly southeast of the mountain.

The ridge, which still includes a nameless summit about 500 m east of the Astenberg and 423.9  m high, forms the separation between Dielfe valley and its side valleys in the north and northeast and Heckenbachtal in the south. The separation between the waters on the mountain looks accordingly. Seifenbach and Scheidbach , both of which flow into the Dielfe , arise in the north and northeast , and two nameless tributaries of the Heckenbach arise in the south and southeast .

About 70 m northeast of the summit, the federal road 54 runs from Wilnsdorf via Obersdorf towards Siegen and in the Heckenbachtal south of the mountain, the state road  907 as a connection from Wilnsdorf to Rinsdorf and Eisern .

In contrast to other mountains in the area, no significant mining took place on the Astenberg. The mountain is made of basalt and was a site for fossils.
