The Eisernbach is a 13.4 km long, left and southeastern tributary of the Sieg in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Siegen-Wittgenstein . It rises on the Kalteiche mountain in the extreme southwest of the Rothaargebirge , but shortly after its source it flows exclusively in the natural Siegerland , where the Hellerbergland runs on the northeast border .

The catchment area of the Eisernbach covers an area of 25.015 km². At its source it is still called Heckenbach , its name only changes between Rinsdorf and Eisern .

geography

course

The Eisernbach rises as Heckenbach am Rinsberg at the northwest foot of the Kalteiche not far from the federal highway 54 and the North Rhine-Westphalian- Hessian border at almost 468  m above sea level. NHN height from the Schneiser-Born.

Initially, the stream flows between Rinsberg and Hemmersberg in a north-west direction. After a short time it takes up a small tributary on the left side, which rises not far from its own source. A little further on, after flowing through a small meadow valley, it reaches the community of Wilnsdorf . In the village it turns north, crosses under Hagener Straße and continues to flow around the Elkersberg in a westerly direction. Parallel to state road  907, the brook flows around a mountain foothill, crosses under the federal motorway 45 and runs about 900 m southwest to Rinsdorf , where the state road changes the side of the brook and this continues to flow to the north-west.

From the Eisern on , the flowing water is then called the Eisernbach . Its largest tributary, the Obersdorf , with a length of almost 2.3 km, flows into the village itself . The L 907 changes the stream side here several times. When leaving Eisern, the brook makes a small arc around the Michelsberg, and turns after passing the northwestern Eiserns in a southwestern direction to Eiserfeld . In the village it flows partly through tunnels and under numerous bridges next to the Eiserntalstrasse, where it also includes the Hubach .

Then the Eisernbach flows further in the direction of Eiserfeld-Mitte and flows there - after crossing under the Siegtalstraße - at a height of 220  m into the Rhine tributary Sieg, which forms a river bend there .
