history

Astral developed through a photo company that was founded in 1961 under the name Angreen Photo . The company was founded by the Greenberg brothers from Montréal. In 1967, the brothers bought image rights to what was then the Expo in Montréal , which led to the company's rapid growth to around 125 branches. The company bought the Pathé-Humphries motion picture lab , which led to further growth. A short time later the company was renamed Astral Bellevue Pathé and later AstralTech . In 1973 the company began duplicating video cassettes under the then company name Astral Bellevue Pathé Limited . The company also produced its own film / television films and series. In 1983, the Greenberg brothers took over two PayTV television networks (now known as The Movie Network and Super Écran ). In the following years, the television network was expanded to include other stations. In February 2000 the company was renamed from Astral Communications to its current name. In March 2012, announced Bell Canada the full acquisition of Astral Media for 3.38 billion Canadian dollars , which was completed in July, 2013.
