Astro ( Hangul : 아스트로) is a six-member boy band from South Korea founded by Fantagio in 2015. The group members are MJ, Jin Jin, Cha Eun-woo, Moonbin, Rocky and Yoon San-ha. After many pre-debut activities, during which they toured all over Korea, they made their official debut on February 23, 2016 with the song Hide & Seek . After they released three mini-albums in 2016 and were allowed to hold their own concerts, they were able to secure a place among the most outstanding rookies of 2016. In the meantime they have released several mini-albums, single albums and a full studio album and with the song All Night they won their first prize on the music show "The Show" on the Korean broadcaster SBS MTV .
history
Pre-debut
Even before their official debut, the Astro members were part of the i-Teen Project. In order to take part in the program, young talents had to pass the auditions. Fans were able to get to know the trainees (including the Astro members) through YouTube videos. The i-Teen trainees also took part in the Lotte World Rising Star Showcase and performed new performances every week from December 2014 to February 2015.
In June 2015 Fantagio announced that you could get to know their new boy band through a web drama. Fantagio officially presented the name of the new group and the members on August 13, 2015. The first episode of To Be Continued aired on Naver TVCast on August 18, 2015. Kim Sae-ron , Seo Kang-jun and Hello Venus played in the other leading roles.
From September to November 2015, Astro performed with the Meet U Project, in 20 shows, in various locations in Korea. In addition, Astro had a mini concert / fan meeting in November and December under the name Moon Date and Snowflake Date.
On January 3, 2016, Eunwoo (still under his real name, with his class) took part in the quiz show The Golden Bell Challenge and was allowed to perform with Astro. Shortly afterwards, on March 8th, an episode of the KBS2 quiz show 1 vs. 100 broadcast. Eunwoo, Moonbin, and MJ participated as candidates and Eunwoo was able to secure second place.
The first episode of Astro's first reality show, ASTRO OK! Ready aired on January 21, 2016 on MBC Every1. The 5 episodes ran weekly on prime time at 7 p.m. KST.
Spring Up , Summer Vibes , Autumn Story (2016)
Astro made their official debut on February 23, 2016 with the mini-album Spring Up. In addition to the title track Hide & Seek ( Hangul : 숨바꼭질), the album contained four other songs, of which mache was already known from To Be Continued . At their debut showcase, where all 1,000 seats were taken, Astro also revealed their official fandom name. AROHA ( Hangul : 아로하) Romanized stands for A st ro H earts A ll fans and means 'love' in the Maori language . On February 25, the group released another music video for the song Cat's Eye ( Puss in Boots ). The song is the last track on the album and was presented by the group during their pre-debut promotions. In the first week after the album was released, it was at number 4 on the Korean Gaon Music Charts and shortly afterwards at # 6 on the US Billbord World Album Charts . In March, Astro was the only Korean group to be invited to the LeTV Entertainment Awards in China.
On July 1, 2016, Astro released their second mini-album, Summer Vibes, with the title track Breathless ( Hangul : 숨 가빠). The album contains a total of 6 tracks, including an acoustic version of the title track. The album landed at # 6 on the Billboard World Albums Chart and was the highest ranked K-pop album of the week. Breathless was # 21 on the Billboard World Digital Song Charts .
On July 30th and 31st, Astro performed at KCON in Los Angeles at the Staples Center . On July 30th they had a special performance with Turbo and on July 31st they performed with their own songs. Only 6 months after their debut, Astro held their first solo concerts on August 27 and 28, 2016 under the title ASTRO 2016 MINI LIVE - Thankx AROHA at the KEPCO Art Center in Seoul. At each of the three appearances, the 1000 seats were as good as sold out. The concerts lasted about 1.5–2 hours. Astro played their own songs as well as covers from other groups. On September 3rd, Astro will be part of the 200th episode of MBC Musics Show Champion , which will be held as a concert in Manila. For their first Asia tour ASTRO The 1st Season Showcase 2016 , Astro held the first concert with 4,000 fans at Tsutoya O-East on October 14, 2016 in Tokyo, Japan. On October 22nd they met their fans in Jakarta and on February 12th 2017 they held the showcase in Bangkok.
On November 10, 2016, Astro released their third mini-album Autumn Story with the title track Confession ( Hangul : 고백). The album was released in two versions (red and orange). It contains a total of 6 tracks, the last of which is a Confession Talk (2 versions) by 3 members each.
On the same day, the first episode of Astro's first reality show, after its debut, aired. Astro Project A.si.a aired on MBC Every1 and MBC Music and the VApp. In the 5 episodes of 25 minutes each, the camera team accompanied Astro to the first two stops of the Asia tour.
On November 21, 2016, Astro started crowdfunding via Makestar . The goal was to collect 35,000,000 ₩ (approx. 29,000 €) to produce a photo book. The amount that is more donated or left over will be donated to a good cause. The goal had already been achieved on December 9th and by the end of the crowdfunding on December 31st, Aroha had collected over 120,000,000 ₩ (approx. € 98,500), breaking the record for the most money raised on a completed Makestar project . In addition, most of the starmakers came together for the project .
Winter Dream, Dream Part.01 (2017)
On February 9th, 2017 it was announced that Astro will release their new special album Winter Dream on February 22nd (one day before their first birthday) , the title song of which they will only promote through fan meetings. The first teaser pictures were released on February 13th together with the title song name, roughly translating as I should've held on ( Hangul : 붙 잡았 어야 해). The official name of the Tietel song is Again and only became popular with the dance practice video for the song. No music video has been released for the single. Fantagio raised several issues in a notice. Underneath, the company stated that although a music video was shot for Again , the result would not fit Astro's image and would not match the actual plans. Due to this dissatisfaction, both the company and the group themselves decided not to release the music video. In one go, the company apologized for not being able to shoot a dance practice video for Confession .
On February 26, 2017, Astro held a fan meeting called The 1st ASTRO AROHA Festival especially for fans who bought official membership for the first generation of the fan club.
On March 17th and 18th, Astro performed at the KCON in Mexico.
Astro released a video for the third song on the Winter Dream album You & Me (Thanks Aroha) on April 1st under the name 'Special DDOCA' .
On May 19th they performed at the KCON in Japan. There they announced that they would hold 2 solo concerts in Japan in August. One in Tokyo and one in Osaka.
On May 10th, the first teaser for Astro's first comeback after the end of the season concept was published on her. On May 29th, Astro released their fourth mini-album Dream Part.01 with the title song Baby.
On June 2nd, the first episode of the drama The Best Hit will be broadcast on KBS2 , in which Eunwoo plays the role of MJ, a rebellious top star.
On September 2nd, Astro will perform on a special episode of Music Bank in Jakarta.
Members
MJ
MJ ( Hangul : 엠제이) was born on March 5th, 1994 in Suwon . His real name is Kim Myung-jun ( Hangul : 김명준, Hanja : 金明俊). He is the oldest of the group and is in the position of main vocals. His nicknames in the group are Happy Virus and Madnae (a mix of Elder Hyung and Maknae).
In 2012 he participated in the JYP X HUM audition. Even if he didn't win, he got a one-year scholarship to Seoul National University .
Jin Jin
JinJin ( Hangul : 진진) was born on March 15, 1996 in Ilsan. Its real name is Park Jin-woo (Hangul: 박진우, Hanja: 朴 真 祐). He is the leader of the group and his positions are Main Rapper and Lead Dancer. He wrote his rap for all Astro songs himself
He learned to play the drums and started dancing in the sophomore year of middle school, starting with street and house. He was accepted with the highest score at Hanlim Multi Arts Highschool for his house dance (now he's finished school). Jin Jin was also part of the Body & Soul dance crew and spent three years at the NY Dance Academy before becoming a trainee at Fantagio.
Cha Eun-woo
Cha Eun-woo ( Hangul : 차은 우, Hanja :車銀優, Abbreviation :车银优) was on March 30, 1997 Gunpo born. His real name is Lee Dong-min ( Hangul : 이동민, Hanja: 李 瞳 旼). He is the face of the group and the vocalist. He is also often featured as the Morning Alarm because he is the first to wake up and wake up the other members.
In 2014, Eunwoo had a guest role in the film My Brilliant Life (두근 두근 내 인생). It played the imaginary, youthful and sane version of Song Hye-kyo and Kang Dong-won's son Ah-reum. He was also a model for the Korean cosmetics brand Shara Shara from 2014 to 2015. Eunwoo is known for his good looks and is often referred to as "ManJjitNam" (boy who came straight out of a Shoujo manga). He also speaks English very well and is learning Chinese.
Moonbin
Moon Bin ( Hangul : 문빈, Hanja : 文彬) was born on January 26th, 1998 in Cheongju . His positions in the group are lead vocalist and lead dancer. His nickname is Meongjangi (mix of dog and cat).
Moonbin made his debut in 2004 as a child model for Samsung, Blue Dog, Soie and Tifanny. Until 2010 he was under contract with Kids Planet Entertainment. He has been with Fantagio since 2010. Before he debuted with Astro, he was known as Mini U-Know Yunho, having appeared in TVXQ's music video for Balloons in 2006 and in an episode of Star King in 2007 with TVXQ and Mini TVXQ. In 2009 he played the young version of Kim-bum in Boys Over Flowers . His sister SuA trains under YG Entertainment and participated in the second season of Unpretty Rapstar .
Rocky
Rocky ( Hangul : 라키) was born on February 25, 1999 in Jinju . Its real name is Park Min-hyuk ( Hangul : 박민혁, Hanja : 朴 敏赫). His positions in the group are main dancer, lead rapper and vocalist. He wrote his rap for all Astro songs himself and (co-) choreographed some of Astros (and other) dances.
Like Moonbin, Rocky has been with Fantagio since 2010. In 2011 he took part in the auditions for Korea's Got Talent. He has rank 4 (black belt) in Taekwondo .
Yoon San-ha
Yoon San-ha ( Hangul : 윤 산하, Hanja :尹產賀, Abbreviation :尹产贺) was born in Seoul on March 21, 2000th He is the youngest member of the group and lead vocalist.
Sanha was in the vocal class at the A-Sound Music Academy. He taught himself to play the guitar within 8 months. He was signed to Fantagio in December 2012. E is the youngest and the biggest of the band.

Advertising contracts
At the end of 2014, current Astro Member Cha Eunwoo was selected under his real name to become the new face for the Korean cosmetics brand Shara Shara and has replaced his predecessor, Infinite Member L.
Just two weeks after their debut, on March 3, 2016, Astro signed a contract with school uniform brand PL Schoolwear ( Hangul : 피엘 스쿨 웨어).
In April 2016, Astro was selected as a model for the cosmetics brand LovLuv ( Hangul : 러블 럽).
At the end of 2016, Astro became the face of Chickenmania ( Hangul : 치킨 매니아).
Since November 1, 2017, Astro have been the new models for Secretday (Hangul: 시크릿 데이), a Korean brand for women's sanitary towels.
