At the Drive-In is an American post-hardcore - band . It was founded in the spring of 1993 in El Paso , Texas , but has only played together since 1997 in a line-up that has remained stable for several years. In 2001 the band broke up and only got back together for a few concerts in 2012. The band has been active again since 2016, in addition to a world tour, a new album was also released.
Band history
At the Drive-In's first EP Hell Paso was released in November 1994 on the band's own music label Western Breed . The following month the band went on their first tour of Texas. She played at a concert in front of an audience of only nine and her EP was available for $ 1.50. Today this EP retails for $ 150 and up on eBay . After a band member was exchanged, they released their second single Alfaro Vive, Carajo! In June 1995 . . Shortly thereafter, the band went on a major US tour for 42 days. On this tour they were discovered by the Flipside label , which gave them the opportunity to record their first album Acrobatic Tenement (1996) in Los Angeles . Since about 1998 and up to and including their first reunion in 2012, the band consisted of the two founding members Cedric Bixler and Jim Ward as well as Omar Rodriguez , Paul Hinojos and Tony Hajjar.
During the first active years of At The Drive-In, the band members had various side projects. Bixler and Rodriguez played with Jim Ward's cousin Jeremy Ward and Ikey Owens since 1997 in the band De Facto , which also toured Europe and the United States. Jim Ward, Paul Hinojos and Tony Hajjar also played At the Drive-In in their side project First Born Pharoah's Son .
In 1999 and 2000 At the Drive-In toured u. a. through Germany. Following the tour in 2000, the band experienced their final commercial breakthrough with the album Relationship of Command . The mainstream press also became aware of the band. The album received praise from fans and critics alike. In February 2001, At the Drive-In broke up after interrupting their world tour in the spring, and the group split into two bands, Sparta and The Mars Volta .
The band declared reunification on January 9, 2012. Several concerts followed, for example at the Coachella Festival , the Lollapalooza Festival , the Splendor in the Grass Festival in Australia, the Fuji Rock Festival and at the two sister festivals Reading and Leeds . After that it quickly became quiet again for the band. In early 2014, Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler-Zavala founded the band Antemasque , whose debut album of the same name was released that same year.
On January 21, 2016, At the Drive-In announced on their homepage and official Facebook presence that they were working on new music and would go on a world tour from March. On March 18, 2016, shortly before the start of their world tour, the band announced the separation from founding member Jim Ward.
On May 5th, 2017 At The Drive-in released an album after 17 years, it is called " In-ter a-li-a ". Most of the reviews have been benevolent and positive. While the music magazine Visions said the album was "the benchmark for every other post-hardcore record of the year", the online magazine metal.de stated that it was "almost frightening" how seamlessly the band ties in with the old sound . "
