Atelaw Yeshetela ( Atelaw Yeshetela Bekele ; born December 4, 1987 in Ethiopia) is a former Belgian long-distance runner of Ethiopian origin who was particularly successful in cross-country skiing .

Career

He was born in Ethiopia and came to Belgium at the age of 16. In 2008 he received Belgian citizenship . He started at the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels in the U23 race, but did not reach the goal. The following year he finished second at the national championships in the 10,000 meter run and was then nominated for participation in the U23 European Athletics Championships in Kaunas , where he gave up the race prematurely. At the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin he won the bronze medal in the U23 age group.

In 2010 he remained largely without outstanding results. At the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz he finished 94th and at the European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira 54th place. He celebrated his greatest success up to that point by winning the 2011 European Cross Country Championships in Velenje.
Atelaw Yeshetela has not appeared internationally since 2012.
