Athanase Bala

Athanase Bala CSSp (born March 2, 1927 in Nlong ; † September 3, 2019 in Yaoundé ) was a Cameroonian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Bafia .

Life

Athanase Bala joined the religious community of Spiritans and was ordained a priest on July 3, 1955 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 31, 1976 Coadjutor Bishop of Bafia and Titular Bishop of Gegi . The Archbishop of Yaoundé , Jean Zoa , ordained him episcopal on September 26 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Paul Etoga , Bishop of Mbalmayo , and Gilles-Henri-Alexis Barthe , Bishop of Fréjus-Toulon .

With the resignation of André Charles Lucien Loucheur CSSp on December 21, 1977, he succeeded him as Bishop of Bafia. On May 3, 2003, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. He taught French, mathematics and Latin to the end.
