Athina Kontou (* around 1990 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a Greek jazz musician ( double bass ) who is also active in the field of world music .

Live and act

Athina Kontou grew up as the daughter of Greek parents in Frankfurt am Main and Athens. She studied jazz double bass and electric bass with Manfred Bründl in Weimar and with Pepe Berns in Leipzig and has worked in the German jazz scene with the Johannes Bigge Trio and in world music with Erik Manouz since 2011 . In 2014 she founded her own band, in which she combines Greek musical culture with the musical language of jazz. With the band, which includes Kalliopi Skourtou (vocals), Philipp Sebening (saxophone), Johannes Bigge (piano, spinet) and Johannes Sens (percussion), she has already performed at the Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival , the Preveza Jazz Festival and theMusikZeit Festival Leipzig .

They also accompanied the singer Karolina Trybala ensemble Cannelle and acts in the formations Autochrom , Été Large to Luise Volkmann and conglomerate . In 2016, she began working with the author Nadja Grasselli : on the project HxH - Die Stadt (er )wart she accompanied the reading of Grasselli's text with solo improvisations on the double bass.

In 2017 she and her band won the regional world music competition creole Mitteldeutschland .
