Luise Volkmann (* 1992 in Bielefeld ) is a German jazz and improvisation musician ( alto saxophone , flute , composition ).

Act

Volkmann studied in Leipzig with Richie Beirach , but also with Johannes Enders and Riccardo Del Fra . She has lived and worked in Germany, France, Palestine and Brazil and is constantly involved not only in music, but also in social and cultural organization. She was one of the founding members of the Leipzig Jazz Collective and initiated the KUBIQUE Jazz Festival.

As a musician, she works with contemporary composed and improvised music. Among other things, she played concerts with Mia Zabelka , Nusch Werchowska, Devin Gray, Satoko Fujii , Xu Fengxia , Moritz Sembritzki and Natsuki Tamura . As a band leader, she founded small bands such as Konglomerat and also large ensembles in Germany and France.

In 2014 Volkmann was invited to the Berlin Xjazz Festival and the Leipzig Jazz Days ; In 2015 she could be seen as part of the NRW Soundtrip, Jazz ist Revolution and the Bandleaderinnen Festival. For her cycle “Eudaimonia” she has put together a formation of twelve musicians with Été Large ; Die Zeit voted Eudaimonia among the best albums of 2017.

Volkmann has been based at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris since the beginning of 2016, initially with an Erasmus grant . In 2018 she performed with Eve Risser's White Desert Orchestra at the Umlaut Festival. In the band Attica she works with Liz Kosack and Tilo Weber . For the opening of the Bauhaus Museum in Weimar in 2019, the LandesJugendBigBand Thüringen premiered one of her compositions.
