The Atminimo-Park ( lit.Atminimo parkas , dt. 'Memorial Park ') is a park in the town of Jonava , Kaunas District , Lithuania . It is located on the Jonava- Gaižiūnai railway road , on the Paneriai , Fabriko and Jonas-Basanavičius roads, not far from the Jonava Forestry Office . Oak, birch, maple, poplar, juniper, common robinia, roses, various bushes grow here. A wooden rifle cross has stood in the park since 1989. On the Paneriai street side there is a Vytis cross, the bricked-up stone "puzzle" made by the former Siberian deportee Aldona Rutkauskienė.

history

The park was founded by forest engineers from the Forestry Department Jonava Antanas Jakštas (1918–1999) and Stasė Mazgelienė (1944–2015). The park is a memory of the fighters for Lithuania's independence. The first work began in 1990 after permission was given by the chairman of the executive committee of the Jonava district community . The trees were planted by the employees of the forest enterprise and representatives of the various organizations of the Rajonggemeinde. In 1994 the oaks were (mostly) planted in memory of Lithuanian partisans such as Juozas Lukša-Daumantas (1921–1951), Jonas Žemaitis-Vytautas (1909–1954), Adolfas Ramanauskas -Vanagas (1918–1957).

Wooden cross

In 1928 the Shooting Union ( Šaulių sąjunga ) wanted to perpetuate the decade of Lithuania's independence and decided to build a national monument on the outskirts of Jonava. Rifle group leader Justinas Vareikis and a primary school teacher organized the construction . They were supported by Pastor Petras Vaitiekūnas . The project author was artist Adomas Varnas (1879–1979). The master was Dominikas Leparskis (1902-1993), who decorated the cross with ornate carvings. Parts of the cross were decorated and painted with an oak leaf and acorns. The oak leaves were made of bronze and the floor was colored (white, green and red). Leparskis also carved statues of saints. The cross was consecrated on October 14, 1928. Lieutenant General Vladas Nagevičius (1880–1954), artist Antanas Žmuidzinavičius (1876–1966), Rifle Choir (conductor N. Martinionis) and the orchestra from the Kaunas Military Museum took part in the festival.

The wooden cross was destroyed in the Soviet era and rebuilt after Lithuania gained independence. In 1990 it was consecrated by the district dean Vincas Algirdas Pranckietis (1923–2016).
