As a branch of the Museum Bochum on Haus Kemnade , the water castle Haus Kemnade , Hattingen is located in the manor house .

The two permanent exhibitions are the Grumbt Musical Instrument Collection with 1,800 instruments and the Erich East Asian Collection.

Musical instrument collection Grumbt

The married couple Hans Grumbt (1898–1989) and Hede Grumbt (1896–1995) were both musicians. They bequeathed their collection during their lifetime. The collection was supplemented by the collection of clarinets by Johan van Kalker.

East Asian Collection Erich

The collection goes back to Kurt S. Erich (* 1910). He was a city administrator, took early retirement in 1952 because of his severe war damage and traveled to Asia in particular.
